COLLINSVILLE — Ella Guerrero knows how to shoot a 3-pointer.
After all, she’s been burying them for the past four seasons at the varsity level for the Collinsville girls basketball team.
That time on the varsity floor has led her to a pair of Kahok records for long-distance shooting.
On Feb. 3 against Father McGivney at Fletcher Gym, she eclipsed the career 3-point record at Collinsville High School by burying a 3-ball from the right corner at the 1:42 mark of the third period. It was her 164th long-distance shot of her career allowing her to be the new record holder.
“Ella has worked hard the past four years and is always ready to shoot,” said Moore. “She has had three pretty solid shooting seasons in a row from beyond the arc. I couldn’t be happier for her.”
Guerrero has buried 64 3-pointers as a senior and 45 as a junior. In her sophomore season, she hit 44 of them and drilled 23 as a freshman.
“I’ve been practicing my 3-pointers since I was as young as I can remember,” she said. “Anytime I’m open I shoot them. It has just been an honor to make that goal.”
Not only did she eclipse the career record, she also set the single-season record for a Kahok three nights later at Fletcher Gym against defending Class 4A state champion O’Fallon.
