Maryville Fire Department to Host Fundraiser for St. Baldrick’s Foundation

By Kathy Turner

MARYVILLE — The public is asked to save the date of Saturday, March 16 to come out and support the Maryville Fire Department in their efforts to raise funds for childhood cancer research.

The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 300 North Donk in Maryville, will feature live music and entertainment along with heartwarming stories of hope and resilience from families and children with cancer. Individuals raising funds for the cause will have their head shaved in support of the children undergoing treatment for cancer.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, recipient of the funds raised at this event, started as an idea in 1999. The idea was to encourage people to raise funds by agreeing to shave their heads in support of children facing cancer. Since its inception, the idea has been supported by first responders around the country as firefighters and police officers agree to shave their heads for donations to help fund childhood cancer research.

Anyone wishing to donate to the cause can do so through the event fundraising page – Or plan on coming out on Saturday, March 16 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and join in the festivities.
