According to a Madison County Sheriff’s Office news release, at around 6 p.m. Tuesday March 26, the Collinsville Police Department responded to a call for service in the 500 block of St. Louis Road in Collinsville in reference to a male subject being shot. Upon determining the subject was deceased and one of the residents at the scene was also a part-time employee at the Collinsville Police Department, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and assumed the investigation. After completing an initial investigation, the following information was obtained:

A subject, unknown to the residents, entered onto the front porch of the home and refused to leave. The resident told the subject to leave, but he continued to refuse. As the resident remained in his home, he repeatedly told the subject not to enter the house. Upon the aggressor opening the storm door to advance into the home, he stated that the resident would have to shoot him. In an attempt to protect his family, the resident fired one shot, which struck the subject in the chest. Another resident at the scene contacted Emergency 911 and requested police assistance immediately after the incident. All of the residents were interviewed and continue to cooperate with the investigation, police, the news release states.

After authorities arrived on scene, the subject was identified as Jonathan J. Gagen, 31, city not listed.
