We are past the midseason mark of the inaugural River City Sharks semi-pro football season. The Collinsville-based unit sits at a surprising 3-4 in the Mid-Central Football League standings as the regular season comes to a rapid close.
Last Saturday the Sharks fell to the number one ranked team in MCFL play the undefeated Englewood Bird Gang from Chicago. The local squad dropped a 40-8 decision.
On July 1 they hosted the Lake County Warriors but fell in a tight 12-8 contest. The win improved Lake County to 5-1-1 on the season.
June 17 saw the Sharks travel to Ft. Wayne, Ind. with only 15 players. They returned with a loss at the hands of the Tigers.
The week before that, RC traveled to Indianapolis, Ind. to beat the Indy Assassins 34-12. The Land Sharks were swarming as their defense forced seven turnovers on the day.
They fell to the Indy Bison early in the season but picked up a win in their first-ever game at the St. Louis Falcons by a 6-0 tally.
RC also has a forfeit victory to their credit this season.
Upcoming Schedule
The Sharks will host the St. Louis Falcons Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Collinsville. They will play at Cory Wilson Field which also serves as the home of the Collinsville Raiders youth football club. Admission to the game is free.
