Kahok baseball takes southern trip to Tennessee

COLLINSVILLE — It was certainly a different kind of week for the Collinsville baseball team as they traveled to the Greater Memphis, Tenn. area to face some top-flight competition to prepare them for their upcoming SWC schedule.
The Kahoks went 1-3 on the southern swing.
They began their trip with a 6-0 win over Van Buren, Ark. on March 21 at the USA Stadium Complex in Millington, Tenn.
Collinsville started their trip fast by manufacturing a run in the top of the first.
With one out, Kris Alcorn reached on an error before Adam Bovinett walked.
Alcorn moved to third on a deep fly ball off the bat of Ethan Bagwell then scored on a passed ball to put the Kahoks ahead.
CHS added a pair of two-out runs in the fifth.
Carter Harrington got things going with a 3-2 walk then advanced on an error by the pitcher and a passed ball.
He scored on Alcorn’s ground ball that was misplayed by the Van Buren first baseman.
Alcorn put himself into scoring position by stealing second and scored on Bovinett’s single to right.
The Kahoks sealed the game in the seventh with a big three-run inning.
With one out, Harrington walked then moved to second on Bovinett’s two-out single and scored on Bagwell’s single to center.
Keaton Call then smacked a double to right field to score Bagwell and courtesy runner Luke Robinson.
Meanwhile Bagwell was dominant on the mound striking out nine hitters and walking two in his five innings of work. The Missouri commit gave up only one hit on the day.
Mason Hartman and Logan O’Dell finished the game on the mound.
Offensively Bovinett finished 3-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI.
Alcorn, Bagwell, Call and Bryce Lemp all had hits with Call blasting a double.
Call had two RBI while Bovinett had one.
Lausanne loss
The following day they went up against Memphis (Lausanne Collegiate School) and fell to the Lynx 11-1 in six innings.
Collinsville managed to collect five hits.
Jace Madura had two hits to lead the way.
Harrington and Martinez both had doubles while Alcorn had a single and an RBI.
Alcorn, Madura, Braden Henson, Carson Parrill and Lucas Owen took the mound for Collinsville.
Greenbriar loss
CHS had a pair of games on the final day of the trip.
In game one they fell to Greenbriar, Tenn. 11-0 in five innings.
Carson Parrill had the only hit for the Kahoks.
O’Dell, Martinez, Matt Reynolds and Amari Berry all pitched for CHS.
Munford game
Collinsville carried a 2-1 lead into the final inning but just couldn’t hang on to it as they fell 5-2 to Munford, Tenn.
CHS manufactured a run in the third to tie the game at 1-1.
Alcorn led off with a hit by pitch and was followed by another HBP by D. Pennell.
The duo moved up a base on Bagwell’s line drive single to center before Harrington lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to score Alcorn.
In the fifth, D. Pennell was plunked by another pitch to begin the inning and moved to second on another single by Bagwell. Harrington drew a walk to load the bases.
Then with two outs D. Pennell scored thanks to Amari Berry’s ground ball that could not be handled by the third baseman.
Offensively Collinsville got two hits from Bagwell while Alcorn and Madura both singled. Harrington had the only RBI for the Kahoks.
Bryce Lemp, Hartman and Harrington were on the mound for Collinsville.
Upcoming Schedule
The Kahoks are off until Saturday when they have a home doubleheader against Breese (Central).
On Monday they host Bethalto (Civic Memorial) then travel to Ladue, Mo. on Tuesday.
