Editor • At the Jan. 26 Triad Board of Education meeting, Brian Mattingly, director of facilities, updated the superintendent and board regarding facilities.

“Over the December break, we try to complete some of our bigger and high priority projects that we just don’t have time to do throughout the regular school year,” he said. “With the help of our maintenance team, custodians, and contractors, we were able to make that happen again this year.”

At Henning Elementary: they completed tile replacement in the first grade hallway, which really brightened up that area of the building. This was the first phase of this project and we plan to continue over the summer by extending the new tile down to the kindergarten hallway doors.

At Triad High School: the green hallway tile replacement was completed over the break as well. The next phase of this project will be the red hallway, which we plan to address during the summer.

Over in Marine, aging and shifting underground sewer piping in the front of Marine Elementary School was replaced over the break to address ongoing concerns and to get ahead of the larger renovation work planned for this summer. “Once the ground softens, we will restore the area and improve the exterior appearance of the school,” Mattingly noted.

Triad Middle School. “Although no work was originally planned at the middle school during the break, we had to pivot to address a domestic water line leak that came up from the ground. The damaged piping was located, excavated and replaced,” he said.

“While we are well underway with the middle school project, we will now begin to mobilize on the high school project on Feb. 16,” Mattingly continued. The groundbreaking ceremony for the high school addition is Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. “I recently met with Holland to review fencing placement and discuss how we will manage site logistics,” he said. “We also met with the THS admin team to walk through site plans in order to get their input on how we plan to make this work. This will be a big change to the campus moving forward, but with clear communication and a supportive admin team, we are confident we can manage the inconveniences and make this work effectively.”

A project kickoff meeting is scheduled for Jan. 30 on the Marine project. At the meeting, Mattingly and others will discuss site planning and schedule for the overall project.

Finally, the interior of Knights Crossing is planned to be completed at the end of February. This is when the district’s regional office of education inspection with the architect is scheduled to be done.

The next Triad School Board of Education meeting is Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the district’s administration building, 203 E. Throp St.
