Trenton man charged with three felonies for harassing Troy official over possible data center
On Feb. 6, 2026, detectives with the Troy Police Department obtained the following charges from the Madison County State’s Attorney Office on Anthony P. Hinojosa, 33, of Trenton, in reference to the statements he made online on Feb. 4, 2026. Hinojosa was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
COUNT I: INTIMIDATION (CLASS 3 FELONY): in that the said defendant, with the intent to cause a public official of the City of Troy to stop ongoing public discussion, debate and negotiation concerning the development of a data center within the municipal limits, knowingly communicated to another, public officials of the City of Troy, directly or indirectly, by any means, and without lawful authority, a threat to inflict physical harm on any workers, contractors or city employees responsible for the development of a data center, in violation of 720 ILCS 5/12-6(a)(1).
COUNT II: FALSE REPORT OF AN OFFENSE (CLASS 4 FELONY): in that the said defendant transmitted or cause to be transmitted in any manner to public officials of the City of Troy, a report to the effect that an offense of aggravated battery with a firearm would be committed, knowing at the time of the transmission that there was no reasonable ground for believing that the offense of aggravated battery with a firearm would be committed, resulting in a police response, in violation of 720 ILCS 5/26-1(a)(4).
COUNT III: ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT (CLASS 4 FELONY): in that the said defendant used electronic communications, public Facebook pages, to threaten injury to the person or property of City of Troy officials or contractors, and defendant threatened to kill City of Troy officials or contractors, in violation of 720 ILCS 5/26.5-3(a)(5).
Hinojosa is being held pending initial appearance in accordance with the Illinois Safe-T Act.
The public is reminded that all arrested persons are merely accused of the charges against them and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
