THS stadium lights, scoreboard part of April’s facilities report to board

By Charles Bolinger

Editor • Bryan Mattingly, the district’s director of facilities, told the superintendent and board of education about the maintenance projects planned for this summer during the April 27 Triad Board of Education meeting.

He added that despite the new construction going on at three schools, he reminded the superintendent and board that he is still making sure the existing schools remain “up to par.”

Triad High School

“We are getting started right away on the renovations to the art and culinary arts rooms,” he said. “Ron Koopman with Holland Construction and myself have been working closely on schedules, deliveries and overall coordination to make sure everything stays on track and ready for students returning in August.”

We are working with Musco Lighting and Veregy on the stadium lighting replacement project, which is scheduled to begin June 1. We have been told the full replacement process should take approximately two and a half weeks to complete.

A new scoreboard was also passed during the meeting, and Mattingly said they will re-use as much of existing conduits and other electrical parts that they can during the transition.

“Our current incandescent scoreboard has served the THS stadium for 27 years and is now experiencing reliability issues; the clock has frozen 4-5 times this spring season, disrupting play and creating operational challenges.

“The aging technology is increasingly prone to failure and no longer meets the standards of comparable South West Conference facilities. A modern LED video display will provide dependable performance for athletic events, graduation ceremonies and other stadium functions, while also enhancing the visual experience for our community.

“The video board will also create valuable learning opportunities for students to develop content and operate the board, similar to programs at other area schools. This upgrade aligns our facility with conference standards and ensures consistent, professional-quality displays for all events, while also generating long-term revenue through advertising and sponsorships, much like our scoretable and digital gym board, to help offset project costs and support other school initiatives. “Investing in this replacement now will prevent further game interruptions and provide long-term reliability for years to come.”

Veregy will also lead the valve replacement project in the CTE area at the high school. This project is expected to continue throughout the duration of the summer.

Gould Flooring is scheduled to begin replacing the tile in the red hallway on June 1, with anticipated completion by June 17.

Tech Electronics will replace fire alarm devices at the high school during the early part of the summer as they continue updating older equipment throughout the building.

He returned with a quote for pressure washing the high school exterior, after that fell through in 2025. To do the front and mezzanine sections would cost about $16,000. He said they would move forward with that and if the results are positive, they will move on to pressure wash other Triad schools’ exteriors.

Henning Elementary

The school bus parking lot extension project will begin as soon as school lets out for the summer in late May. Right now, it is expected to take around six to eight weeks to complete.

Gould Flooring will also be at Henning beginning on June 1 to continue the tile replacement project up through the kindergarten area. This portion of work is scheduled to be completed by June 12.

We are also planning to complete blacktop resurfacing work at Henning this summer to help improve the paved areas around the building.

Marine Elementary

They are scheduled to begin the roof replacement project with Bartch Roofing on May 26 and are hoping to have the project completed by June 12, weather-permitting.

“We already held our pre-construction meeting with PSI present and all contractors involved, so everyone is on the same page before work gets underway,” he said.
