Madison County chairman stresses motorcycle awareness as summer comes on

By Randy Pierce • With spring and warmer weather marking a time of year when more motorcycle riders are on the streets and roads, Madison County Board Chairman Chris Slusser has issued a statement urging all motorists to recognize the need for safety and respectful treatment of others using two- (or in some cases three-) wheeled vehicles.

At the most recent regular monthly meeting of the county board, Slusser, with two members of the local area chapter of an advocacy group called A Brotherhood Aimed Toward Education present, cited how motorcycles “serve as a common and economical means of transportation, reducing fuel consumption, easing traffic and parking congestion,” while also minimizing road wear, recommended that drivers of other types of vehicles should be aware of them and utilize careful approaches to transportation movement in their presence.

He additionally noted that ABATE of Illinois is an advocate for pertinent educational programs and outreach efforts, reaching more than 120,000 participants over the past nine years, while its members also contribute volunteer services and fund-raising programs for various charitable causes and community organizations.
