Three Brothers Masonic Golf Scramble needs golfers, donations

By Brittany Blackwell

Reporter • The Fourth Annual Three Brothers Masonic Golf Scramble is approaching and golfers and donations are needed to support children in need.

According to Brett Leman of the Highland Masonic Lodge and Ainad Shrine Temple, proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children of St. Louis, which offers comprehensive care through specialized physicians for orthopedic, spine and neuromuscular conditions, as well as orthotics, prosthetics and plastic surgery.

“We are hoping to provide funding to help purchase headgear, a new van or medical equipment needed for the children,” Leman stated.

“The hospital needs to replace their van fleet, most of which are over five years old and have over 100,000 miles on them. These vans play an integral part in transporting children and family members to hospitals around the Midwest.”

Donations and sponsorships will also help cover the cost of food and prizes.

Leman emphasized the urgent need for additional participants.

“We need golfers most,” he said. “Our goal is 25 teams. If we reach that, we will be in good shape. We began our campaign six weeks ago and with two months remaining, we are praying for participation.”

The event will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Oak Brook Golf Club, 9157 Fruit Rd., Edwardsville. The cost is $100 per person or $400 per team, with up to four people per team. Registration includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, food and awards.

“Oak Brook has been really nice to us, so that’s why we continue to hold it there,” said Leman, the event chairman. “It is convenient for all three lodges.”

Leman is working with executive committee members Shawn Foles of Highland Lodge #583, Michael Maine of Marine Lodge #355, and Paul Ledermann of Gordon Lodge #473 in Pocahontas. The group is also coordinating with Shriner Clubs, including MA-CLI-BO, Bond County Shrine Club and Little Big Rigs.
