William Ackerman

William “Bill” Ackerman, 70, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2021 after an honorable battle with Leukemia this past year.

Bill was the youngest of two children born to the late William and Isabelle (Smith) Ackerman on October 15, 1950. Bill graduated in 1968 from Triad High School, Troy and soon after started his own computer business, Ackerman Business Systems. On June 19, 1971, Bill married Carol Ann Hall at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, IL. They enjoyed 49 inseparable years together. After 65 years in the Illinois area, they moved to Green Bay, WI in 2017 to be closer to their daughter, Jane. Bill had a deep appreciation for trees and nature, when he wasn’t out in the woods or in his beautiful gardens, you could find him downstairs reloading. He enjoyed visiting the botanical gardens, traveling, reading, collecting coins and riding the tandem bike all over the United States with Carol.

Bill was an active member of the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) at the Litchfield Sportsman’s Club. Bill chose the shooting name of Ross Haney after a character out of his favorite Louis L’Amour book collection. He and Carol (a.k.a. Sunny Day) enjoyed shooting with their friends at hundreds of club matches over the years competing in Cowboy Action Shooting while preserving the history of the Old West.

Bill will be deeply missed and is survived by; his wife, Carol, daughter, Jane (Andrea) Ackerman, sister, Nancy (Bud) Klaustermeier, sister-in-law, Nancy (Don) Thomas, brother-in-law, Howard (Laurie) Hall, numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and their two sweet border collies, Rosie and Maggie. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Isabelle Ackerman.

Bill’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to Aurora Oncology, Aurora Hospice, the staff at The Courtyard at Bellevue, Pastor Matthew Baye of Hope Lutheran Church, all of the family and friends that visited, called, sent cards, brought or sent food and helped out in many ways.

Visitation and service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Paul’s  Lutheran Church, Troy, IL.  Helping Hands of St. Paul’s Lutheran will provide a luncheon following the service for family and close friends by invitation only due to COVID restrictions.
