Suspect Arrested In Murder In Maryville

During a press conference held at the Maryville Police Department on March 21, St. Louis Major Case Squad Major Jeff Connors announced the arrest on March 19 of  Danyel Johnson, 40 of St. Louis, MO in the shooting death of Ronald L. Holland, 40, of Jennings, MO.

Maryville police received a 911 call at 4:05 p.m. on March 17 about a body face down in a pool of blood in the 2000 block of N. Bluff Rd.

Maryville Police responded to find the victim face down with multiple gunshot wounds.

Maryville Police Chief Rob Carpenter immediately called in the Major Case Squad who responded within 30 minutes of the call.

Both men knew each other and drove to Illinois together in  the victim’s car. The vehicle was later recovered in St. Louis.

Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine announced that Johnson has been charged with 4 felony counts, including two 1st degree murder charges, one count of a stolen firearm, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon  and could face life in prison.

Johnson had previously been released in December of 2020 on a weapons charge and is currently held in the St. Louis County jail.

Neither man had any ties to Maryville, Collinsville, or the surrounding area.
