Marine library to host coloring contest, spring book sale

Submitted by Marine Library

The Marine Library is having a spring coloring contest for children ages 1-4, 5-8, and 9-12.  Contestants may pick up a coloring page at the library during library hours which are Tuesday evenings 6 to 7:30 p.m. or Saturday mornings 10 to 11:30 a.m.  The contest will run from March 18 to April 8.  All entries must be returned by April 8.  A prize will be given for each age bracket.

At the March board meeting, Shelly Stroff was welcomed as a new volunteer. Shelly will serve as a librarian on the second Saturday of each month.

The board also set Saturday, April 29, for the Spring Book Sale.  The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The library will begin accepting book donations April 1 through April 25.  All donations must be brought to the library only during library hours — Tuesday evening 6 to 7:30 p.m. or Saturday morning 10 to 11:30.  Donations are not to be left in the Book Drop or outside.

The board is happy to accept books that are in good condition, clean, and odor free.  Books that are accepted include children’s books, adult fiction and non-fiction, and DVDs.  Due to limited space, the following items will not be accepted:  Textbooks reference, health, or home improvement books.  We no longer accept VCR and cassette tapes.  Books that we accept may be shelved or offered at our book sale.  Discarded books are sent for recycling or taken to Goodwill.

Once again, the library will have a basket stand at the Marine Homecoming on June 23 and 24.  This is a major fundraiser; all money raised is used for general operating expenses.
