It was a busy week of competition for the Collinsville High School girls track team as they competed in three meets.
Lady Maroon Invite
Collinsville competed in the 20-team Lady Maroon Invite in Belleville on March 30 and returned home with several top finishes.
Deairra Spears had top finishes in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
She finished fifth in the 100 with a time of 12.83. It was a season record for her. She finished 0.63 seconds behind race winner DeAndranay Chism of Belleville East with her time of 12.20 seconds.
Spears returned in the 200 meters to run a time of 26.60 seconds which was good for seventh place. Chism also won the 200 with a time of 24.87 seconds.
Ragin Clemons almost broke into the 12-second mark in the 100 meters, running a time of 13.03 seconds to put her in ninth place.
“She was hopeful for a sub-13 mark but I think that’s coming in the near future for her,” said CHS coach Adam Blair. “She’s a hard worker and a great girl to work with.”
She took 12th in the 200 with a time of 27.19 seconds.
Catalina Jimenez took 14th place in the 800 with a time of 2:39.87.
“It ended up being super windy there,” said Blair. “For those girls that run a full lap or multiple laps, they don’t get the benefit of a tailwind. When I talked to the girls before I said, ‘don’t expect a PR just trust the race strategy that we talked about. Don’t lead into a headwind, tuck behind a girl and then pass her on a tailwind.’ The fact that they ran as well as they did was a great sign.”
Kaitlyn Hatley of Glen Carbon (Father McGivney) won the race with a time of 2:21.60.
The CHS 4×100 meter relay team of Spears, Clemons, Talesha Gilmore and Aubrey Kohler took fourth place with a time of 50.97 seconds. O’Fallon won the race with 49.10 seconds.
In field events, Kahok Craig Hall took fourth place in the shot put with a heave of 31’ 3 ½” while Ellie Rhinehart set a personal record of 29’ 0”. Emily Sykes of Granite City took top honors with a heave of 36’ 4 ¼”.
