Kahok track competes at Norm Armstrong Invite

It was a decent showing for the Collinsville boys track team at the massive Norm Armstrong Invite at Belleville West on April 7.
CHS and Plainfield (North) tied for 14th place out of 32 schools. Both schools registered 20 points on the day. Homewood (Flossmoor) won the title with 85 points.
Khalil Thorps-Watt had the best day for the Kahoks with a first-place and fourth-place finish.
He won the high jump with a best mark of 1.95 meters or 6’ 4 ¾”.
Thorps-Watt then took fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.26 meters or 43’ 6”. Nicholas DeLoach of Cahokia won the title with a best bound of 14.27 meters or 46’ 10”.
Trey Peterson moved into the #8 slot on the all-time Kahok list among 800-meter runners with his time of 1:57.97. That was good enough for fourth place. O Fallon’s Zach Thoman won the title with a 1:56.28.
Devin Habermehl took tenth place in the discus with a toss of 42.63 meters or 139’ 11”. Lose Epenesa finished first with a toss of 49.61 meters or 162’ 9”.
O’Fallon Relays
On April 3, Collinsville competed in the rescheduled O’Fallon Relays.
CHS brought home a fourth-place finish with 96 points with O’Fallon taking the title with 177 points.
Thorps-Watt had the only individual title of the day for the Kahoks with a victory in the high jump. He cleared 1.90 meters or 6’ 2 ¾”.
CHS brought home three third-place finishes as well.
Ayden Gratzl took third in the pole vault by clearing 3.50 meters or 11’ 5 ¾”. Moralde Nathaniel of Mascoutah won the event with a mark of 3.65 meters or 11’ 11 ¾”.
In the shot put, Habermehl brought home a third-place medal with a heave of 14.42 meters or 27’ 3 ¾”. Caleb Smith of Salem took the title with a heave of 17.66 meters or 57’ 11 ¼”.
The distance medley relay team of Peterson, Brian Castro, Juan Carlos Doria, and Andrew Gonski brought home a third place medal. They ran a time of 11:11.23. Marion was the relay winner with a time of 10:50.22.
That time is #3 on the all-time list for Kahok boys track.
Jonathan Sewell brought home a fourth place in the discus with a toss of 42.97 meters or 140’ 12” while Habermehl had a heave of 42.80 meters or 140’ 5”.
Once again Smith of Salem took top honors with a toss of 46.36 meters or 152’ 1”.
Collinsville’s 4×200 meter relay team of Isaiah Gordon, Christian Swift, Jalek Nelson, and Jeremiah Yarbough brought home a fourth place finish with a time of 1:35.60. Mt. Vernon took the top spot with a time of 1:31.98.
Talin Nabors took eighth place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.05 seconds. Simon McClaine of Alton won the title with a time of 40.57 seconds.
In the final race of the meet, Collinsville took sixth place. Their 4×400 meter relay team took sixth with a time of 3:44.12. On that team were Peterson, Yarbough, Nelson and Dylan Brown. Alton (Sr.) won the title with 3:30.94.
F/S Tiger Invite
Collinsville brought back three first place finishes at the Edwardsville Freshman/Sophomore meet on April 4.
Devin Habermehl took first in both the shot put and the discus competitions.
He won the shot with a heave of 13.38 meters of 43’ 10 ¾”. Kaden Hearn took third with a toss of 12.70 meters of 41’ 8”. That mark was a personal best for him.
In the discus, Habermehl won with a toss of 43.34 meters or 142’ 2”. That mark is now #5 on the all-time F/S list at CHS.
Talin Nabors won the 110 high hurdles with a time of 16.18 seconds. That time was a PR for Nabors and is now #3 on the F/S all-time list for Collinsville athletes.
Adam Frazier ran a 17.61 and finished fourth.
Nabors returned with another PR in the 300 low hurdles by running a time of 45.71 seconds. That was good for fourth place.
Ayden Gratzl took second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.5 meters or 11’ 5 ¾”.
Andre Mayne cleared 1.60 meters or 5’ 5” in the high jump while Amauri Harper took sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.30 seconds.
James Kline ran a personal record in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:21.07 which placed him seventh. William Slazinik ran a personal record of 2:24.42 in the 800 meters which was good enough for seventh place.
Edwardsville won the team title with 149 points with the Kahoks taking fourth with 71 points.
Upcoming Schedule
The F/S team took part in the Highland F/S Invitational on Tuesday however results were unavailable at press time.
The varsity travels to the Granite City Invite on Friday and returns to action at the Triad Invitational on Monday.
