CHS softball continues offensive improvement

It was a tough week for the Collinsville High School softball team in the results column but the offensive production was better as CHS dropped a pair of one-run decisions among their four games.
Alton (Marquette) 7 CHS 6
Collinsville managed three runs in the final two innings and had the go ahead run at first when the final out was made on April 14 at Gordon Moore Park in Alton.
CHS plated two runs in the top of the seventh with nobody out.
Lexi Rafalowski began the inning with a walk before Emma Hylton moved her to third with a single. Hylton advanced to second on a passed ball before Bailey Demick singled to right to drive home both runners and make it a one run game.
But Collinsville could not get the tying run across.
The Kahoks had cut the lead to 7-3 in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Marissa Thomas to score Katie Bardwell.
CHS got a single tally in the fourth when Addie Stone’s ground out scored Bardwell who had led off the inning with a triple.
The other Kahok runs came thanks to an RBI single by Thomas to score Faith Fairchild. An Alton error allowed Keagan Edwards to score as well in the second inning.
For the game, Bardwell had a pair of hits while Hylton, Demick, Stone, and Thomas all singled. Demick and Thomas both drove home two runs.
Thomas and Aubrey Mason were in the circle for Collinsville.
Belleville East 14 CHS 1 (5 innings)
Collinsville dropped a five inning decision at Belleville East on April 13.
The Kahoks got their only run in the top of the fourth, thanks to a lead off single by Hylton. She moved to second on a wild pitch and third courtesy of a ground out by Demick.
Bardwell drove her home on a sacrifice fly to center.
Brittany Sarginson had the only other hit for Collinsville.
Thomas and Stone shared duties in the circle for CHS.
O’Fallon 14 CHS 4
CHS stayed right with the Panthers trailing only 5-4 through five innings, but O’Fallon scored nine runs in the final two innings for the big win in Collinsville on April 11.
The Kahoks plated three runs in the third to cut the O’Fallon lead to 5-3.
With two outs, Rafalowski walked and stole second and third and scored on a fielding error thanks to a ground ball by Hylton.
After Demick singled Bardwell brought both runners home with a double to cut the lead to two runs.
CHS cut the Panther lead to one in the fifth thanks to a bunt by Bardwell to bring home Hylton but CHS could not push any more runs across.
For Collinsville, Demick and Barwell each had two hits while Paulie Schreiber had one.
Alton 9 CHS 8
The Redbirds jumped out to a 7-4 lead then used a two-run bottom of the fourth to cap the scoring and beat CHS in an SWC contest in Alton.
Upcoming Schedule
CHS hosted Carbondale, Granite City, and Marion at the Collinsville Sports Complex the past three days however results were unavailable at press time.
They host Edwardsville on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
