Collinsville will host its fourth annual fireworks festival this Memorial Day weekend.
The City will commemorate the Memorial Day with a celebration chock-full of family-friendly activities, live music, vendors, food trucks and of fireworks.
General admission to the Memorial Day weekend celebration is free. The festivities will last from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, at the Aqua Park and Eastport Plaza area. The Aqua Park will be open during the day of the event and will close at 5 p.m. Kimberly Caughran, director of parks and recreations for the City explained the start of the festival.
“After regaining control of the parks and creating a Parks and Recreation Department, the City wanted to bring back a fireworks show to the community,” Caughran said. “Thus, the Memorial Day Fireworks Festival was born.”
Caughran said it’s a celebration to bring in the summer and she hopes everyone in the community comes to enjoy the festivities. Vendor fair and food trucks will open from 4pm to 8pm. The Kid’s Zone will be open from 4pm to 8pm, with a Bubble Bus, face painting, Home Depot Build-a-Kit and inflatables.
Attendees of the fireworks show can purchase adult and under 21 tickets for V.I.P. access into the Aqua Park to watch the fireworks show. V.I.P. tickets for adults will cost $40 and people under 21 can purchase tickets for $25. The fireworks display will start at 9:25pm.
Adult V.I.P. tickets will include access to the Aqua Park Leisure Pool, V.I.P. parking at the Activity Center, food, drinks and two free alcoholic beverage tickets. V.I.P. access into the Aqua Park will begin at 6 p.m. is only required for watching the fireworks show inside of the Aqua Park. Anyone wanting V.I.P. tickets must register for them.
“The City has been working hard on this event throughout the year,” Caughran said. “Preparations have involved my departments as well as local businesses and vendors.”
According to the Collinsville Parks and Recreation Department there are several sponsors for the event, Ameren Illinois and Ascend Cannabis, Platinum and Red tier sponsors respectively. The CMC Rotary Club and Guarantee Electrical Construction are both Blue tier sponsors. Other sponsors include Gliks, Home Depot and Rivers & Routes.
Caughran said that general parking for the event will be available at the Gateway Center, the former Gateway Fun Park and at the Living the Word Church parking lot.
Attendants to the festival are not allowed to bring in outside coolers nor weapons to the event. “We ask that people bring their smiles and their patience,” Caughran said.
