Village of Glen Carbon opens cooling center through July 5

With extreme heat forecast for the next several days, the Village of Glen Carbon will open the community room at the police department as a cooling center.

The National Weather Service has announced a heat advisory for the Glen Carbon area beginning Friday, June 29th through Wednesday, July 5th, with heat index values over 100 degrees.

Police stated in a news advisory that because of the heat advisory,  the Village of Glen Carbon has made a declaration that the Glen Carbon Police Department’s Community Room, located at 149 N. Main, Glen Carbon IL, will be open as a Cooling Shelter for Glen Carbon residents from Friday, June 29, through Wednesday, July 5.

The Glen Carbon Police Department encourages citizens to drink plenty of fluids, reduce, eliminate, or reschedule strenuous activities until the coolest time of the day, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
