Patricia Rae “Pat” Walker
Patricia Rae “Pat” Walker (nee Killinger), age 90, passed away peacefully in her home on July 3, 2023.
Beloved wife of Joseph Donald “Don” Walker, of Caseyville, Pat grew up in Collinsville, graduating Collinsville High School in 1950. Upon graduation, Pat earned a degree from Miss Hickey’s School for Secretaries in St. Louis, MO. Pat’s varied work career included: public relations, legal secretary, banking and secretarial duties for U.S. Army in Fort Mead, MD.
Pat was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she shared her great love of music, serving as choir director, and chairperson of numerous church musicals for many years. In addition, Pat taught Sunday School, served on church anniversary committees and with her husband, Don, and enjoyed sponsoring the Youth Fellowship Organization for a number of years.
Being at the center of Pat and Don’s married life, their love of singing was shared with their church choir while traveling to Europe, family and friend weddings, frequent sing alongs with family and friends, and performing in Spring Fling and Fall Follies at church. An exciting event in Pat’s musical career came when she and Don, along with (the late) Floyd Sperino and his wife, Bernice (of Collinsville), formed a Quartet that performed on St. Louis television in the late 1950’s.
Pat lovingly designed the cabin home in the woods where she and Don lived for many years enjoying the antics of their cats, peaceful solitude, and wildlife.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Mabel (nee Rapp) Killinger; and her beloved sister, Eileen Killinger.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her precious husband of 72 years, “Don” Walker. Her beautiful smile and laughter will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews with whom she celebrated many special family occasions.
Services were held July 6, 2023 at St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville officiated by Rev. Katie Jo Bielke. Burial was in St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
Memorials are suggested to Faith In Action and will be received Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
