The Maryville Village Board on Wednesday, Aug. 16, approved the permanent hiring of Doug Dankenbring as the new fire chief. Dankenbring has been serving as interim chief for the past four months. His permanent appointment was effective immediately.

In other business regarding the fire department, paid-on-call firefighter John Miller submitted his letter of resignation. His letter stated he appreciated the opportunity to learn and grow with the department for nearly eight years, but felt it was time for him to relinquish his role to a less time-consuming position. He will remain a part-time paramedic.

The board also approved the replacement of two in-car computers for the police department. The computers will be purchased through CDS Office Technologies at a cost of $6,396.

The board approved an increase in wages for non-union employees of the village. The increases will be effective based on hire dates.

An amendment to the Code of Ordinances impacted the regulation of soliciting in the village. The prior code stated that notices for residents to post on their windows prohibiting solicitors would be available through the police department. The change identifies that residents should make their own signage with letters minimally at one inch in height.

The board approved a water service and pre-annexation agreement for the property located at 7 Suncrest Drive in Collinsville.

The next meeting of the board will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m.
