COLLINSVILLE — Two wrestlers for the Collinsville girls team won weight classes on Dec. 1 at the Granite City Invite.
Taylor Dawson won the 130-pound class while Tashieya Taylor won at 155 pounds.
“Dawson dominated every opponent by pinfall and executed almost 30 takedowns with three opponents,” said CHS coach Jordan May.
She started the tourney beating Lilly Bay of Washington by pin at 3:52, then beat DJ Tucker of Marion by medical forfeit in the semifinals.
In the championship, she beat Zoey Zimmerman of Arnold, Mo. (Fox) at the 2:33 mark.
At 155, Taylor beat Phoebe Selvidege of Highland in 49 seconds then won over Elsie Dozier of Chatham (Glenwood) at the 45 second mark.
Brylee O’Conner of Bartlett was her next victim at the 35 second mark.
In the semifinals she beat Meghan Breckenfelder of Fox in 16 seconds then needed only 22 seconds to win the championship over Paige McKennedy of Bartlett.
“Tashieya came out aggressive and pinned every single one of her opponents in the first period,” said May.
LeAnn Coy took third place with a 4-1 mark for the day. She pinned Alyvia Naylor of Fox in 13 seconds and Madeline Moreland of Belleville West in 11 seconds. In her final two matches she beat Emily Upshaw of Bartlett and then Lea Kuc of Belleville East for third.
At 120, Kaytlynn Bray beat Aliezsha DeLoach of Cahokia.
