ST. JACOB — The St. Jacob Village Board met on Dec. 6 and approved two new ordinances.
The first ordinance approved a 4.9% increase in the tax levy for 2024. This is the maximum amount allowed without a truth in taxation hearing. The second ordinance approved was to renew the current employee health insurance plan with United Health Care. The premium is increasing by 11.7%, but quotes received for comparable plans were 12.1% and 16.1% higher.
The village also participated in two successful holiday events since the last meeting. Christmas in the Village proved to be successful yet again with 100 kids coming and receiving goodie bags, even with the event put on for elementary students at Triad High School the same evening. The village police department in conjunction with the Highland Moose also helped adopt and shop with three youth out of 28 in the annual Shop with a Cop program at the Highland Walmart.
Other discussions at the board meeting included:
- Water and Sewer Chair will be having a committee meeting in the near future to begin the sewer lining application and an ordinance addressing replacement costs of water meter parts damaged by the property owner.
- The police department issued 10 tickets since the November 15 meeting.
- The Treasurer’s Report was accepted. The village had a $70,000 surplus for October.
The last meeting for 2023 will be Dec. 20, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall.
