MARYVILLE — The Wednesday, Dec. 20 meeting of the Maryville Village Board was highlighted with awards and recognitions of both employees and residents.

Mayor Craig Short opened the meeting by announcing the winners of the Holiday Lighting Contest. The Village Parks and Recreation Committee each year drives the Village and identifies the top four lighting displays for residential homes and names the best holiday lighting for an entire street.

This year’s winners were:  1st place, Robert and LaDonna Sanson, 608 Andra Drive; 2nd place, Zachary and Tiffany Henske, 2309 Preswyck Court; 3rd place, Brian and Allyson Yates, 1201 Jacqueline Court; and, 4th place Kevin and Heidi Trackwell, 2912 Bluff Meadow Drive. The Best Lighted Street was Barbarotto Lane, and the homes of Anthony and Sherry Barbarotto, Michael and Jennifer Barbarotto and Jeff and Fara Uchitjil.

Police Chief Tony Manley presented to the Board special honorees for the year 2023.  He said he plans to give awards annually recognizing officers in the department for special recognition.

Officer Shae Eaton was named Officer of the Year. Distinguished Service Awards went to four members of the force – Officer Marshall Brooks, Officer Austin Sebastian, Sgt. Jared Missey, and Deputy Chief Brandon Ponce. The In Excellence Award went to Detective Justin Krause.

In regular business, the Board approved an ordinance and employee manual changes to reflect the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act. The Act was approved by Gov. Pritzker in 2023 and requires all part-time employees be included in the offering of paid leave.

The Board also approved the attendance of Matt Hoffmann and Joe Simpson at the Illinois Section American Water Works Association Watercon 2024 in Peoria. Cost of attendance was approved not to exceed $3,600.

Village hall and village services will be closed Jan. 1 for the New Year’s Holiday.

In final action, Mayor Short announced the appointment of Greg Peck to the position of Assistant Fire Chief for the Village. His duties will begin immediately as he assists Chief Dankenbring with daily operations at the fire department.

The next meeting of the board will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
