Taylor, Coats Qualify for Sectional; Girls Beat Alton

COLLINSVILLE — The boys bowling team at Collinsville fell just short of qualifying to the IHSA bowling sectional tournament this weekend.

They finished in fifth place one spot and 139 pins behind the final qualifier Belleville West.

O’Fallon edged Mascoutah for the regional championship with Breese (Central) placing third. The Panthers finished second at the state finals last year with the Indians taking third.

Defending state champions Salem was upset at home by Harrisburg falling to the Bulldogs by 33 pins. However again the top four teams from the regional advance to the sectional.

Collinsville was third after the first games then moved to second place after the second set of games. They could not recapture their earlier success until the final frames when they rolled a 958 compared to the Maroons’ 804 but it wasn’t enough.

Collinsville junior Jace Coats took sixth place overall with a total of 1,294 pins. He recorded the highest score among all those whose team did not qualify for state.

He had only three open frames during his six games on the day.

Coats had high games of 247, 235, 220 and 217.

Kahok junior Jacob Taylor finished sixth among those who did not compete for a qualifying team. He rolled a 1,207 for the day.

His high game was 235 along with a 222, and 211 showing.

Brody Hogenson of CHS rolled high games of 204, 203 and 201 with Daniel Wilde coming up with 204 and 200 for his top marks.

Shane Box fired a 215.

Triad’s Logan Drabing also qualified for the sectional thanks to his total of 1,258.

Darren Klein a freshman from Mascoutah won the individual regional championship with a pinfall total of 1,357. Freshman Travis Muskopf of Belleville West was second with a total of 1,339.

Alton match

The boys dropped their final regular season match at Bowl Haven Lanes in Alton to the Redbirds.

Taylor fired a 222 along with a pair of 210s for a 642 series.

Coats rolled a 258 for his high game.

Collinsville finished the year 9-7 overall and 8-7 in the conference.

State notes

Salem came into the week with the number one ranking in the state while Harrisburg was ranked tenth. Mascoutah was number three and O’Fallon was fifth.

Girls bowling

The CHS girls team had one match last week, a 38-2 win over Alton at Bowl Haven Lanes.

Livia Montgomery led the way with a 661 series. She had games of 244, 213 and 204.

Three other Kahoks rolled series over 500.

Emily Dahl rolled a 548 series with a high game of 197 while Taylor Mordis rolled a 540 and a high game of 201.

Laila Jaoko rolled a 533 series with a high game of 187.

Upcoming Schedule

Collinsville traveled to Belleville East on Tuesday however results were not available at press time. They play in Rockford on Saturday at The Cherry Bowl in the Viking Invitational.

On Monday they host Belleville West then travel to HI-Top Bowl in Highland to take on Triad on Tuesday.
