In the A flight, Habermehl fired a 16.00 meter to take the competition. That converts to 54’ 4 ½”.

Antonio Montoya of Normal (Community) was second at 14.70 meters or 48’ 2”.

The B flight saw Hearn toss the shot put 13.48 meters or 44’ 2”. Omer Mescioglu of Plainfield (North) took second place with a heave of 13.47 meters or 44’ 1 ½”.

School records

He leaped 6.79 meters or 22’ 3 ¼” to beat the old mark he set last season of 22’ 2 ½”.

Jo’Viano Howard of Cahokia won the competition with a leap of 6.97 meters or 22’ 8 ½”.

He took second in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.95 meters or 6’ 3 ½” which ended up being ½ inch off the school indoor record. Bailey Crone set the CHS mark of 6’ 4” in 2016.

Voldy Makabu of Champaign (Centennial) cleared 2.0 meters or 6’ 5 ½”.

Andrew Gonski set the indoor school record for the 1600 meters on Saturday as well.

“A nice and big surprise out of Andrew Gonski,” said CHS coach Darryl Frerker. “ he finally put together a complete race from the gun and broke the indoor school record by two seconds.”

He finished third in the race with a time of 4:34.03. He broke the old Collinsville record of 4:36.55 set in 2011 by Brett Haffner.

“It was an exciting race,” said Frerker of the 1600. “You don’t have that very often and it just got more and more exciting as he continued to click off laps on pace.”

Zach Self of Aurora (Waubonsee Valley) took first place in the race at 4:29.10.
