Collinsville Garden Club Hosts District Annual Meeting

The Collinsville Garden Club recently hosted the District V Annual Meeting of the Garden Clubs of Illinois, Inc. at Meadow Heights Baptist Church. In addition to Collinsville Garden Club, members include Edwardsville Garden Club, Lakeview Garden Club, O’Fallon Garden Club, Sliver Creek Garden Club, St. Clair County Garden Club, Thyme to Garden, and Trenton Tumbleweeds Garden Club. Illinois has 139 member clubs with 6500 members in seven districts across the state.

Seventy-two members attended the annual meeting where there was also a vendor fair, people’s choice flower show, a presentation on cut flower gardening, and a luncheon followed by the installation of officers. All officers serve a two-year term.

The Collinsville Garden Club completes several projects each year that benefit the community. In addition to tending to wildflower beds and a sensory garden in raised beds the D.D. Collins House, they donate fresh vegetables grown at the Collins House to the Collinsville Food Pantry. Last year, they donated 261 pounds. For each of the past seven years, the Collinsville Garden Club has also given a $50 scholarship to a student who plans to study horticulture at SWIC.
