Weather Doesn’t Dampen Maryville Music Festival Success
by Kathy Turner
MARYVILLE — Storms moved in before the end of the evening’s entertainment, but the Maryville Music Festival held on May 4 proved to be a success. According to Mike Spillers, Chair of the Maryville Parks and Recreation Committee, there were a large number of attendees throughout the day’s activities.
Though all the funds have not been tallied, Spillers estimates that the group made more than $40,000. The funds will be used toward a new entertainment pavilion in Drost Park.
More than 1,000 people purchased tickets for the event. They enjoyed the music on two stages from a multitude of bands. They also had food and refreshments available throughout the day which was held on a beautiful spring day before the storms moved in during the evening performances.
The group is in the process of reassessing plans for the pavilion. Curtailed earlier because of Covid, the plans will now include some much-needed upgrades to the park’s infrastructure resulting in a redesign of the plans for the pavilion.
More information about those plans will be released in the near future. Anyone wishing to contribute to the project is still welcome to do so by visiting the parks and recreation website at www.vil.maryville.i.us/98/Parks-Recreation.
