Glen Carbon Mayor Marcus Presents State of the Village Report

GLEN CARBON — As required by state statute, Glen Carbon Mayor Bob Marcus on Tuesday, May 28 presented a State of the Village report to Board members and those in attendance at the regular meeting. Marcus spoke of the past year’s activities in the Village.
He reported that two major developments have continued to expand over the past year. Meridian Plaza is moving forward with development and will soon be the site of a convenience store, a golf and fitness facility, planned to open in July, a restaurant/bar establishment, Heartland Dental, a Shuckin’ Shack Oyster Bar and office buildings.
The development will also include single-family residences as well as multi-family units with 72 one-bedroom units, 66 two-bedroom units and 6 three-bedroom units.
Orchard Town Center, already the home to Chick-Fil-A, Olive Garden, and Plaza Tire is seeing the start of construction of Club Car Wash and a Dick’s Sporting Goods Store. In addition, Meijer’s is in the process of completing mine remediation on the property to move forward with construction.
The Village has seen a 24% increase in building permits overall and has added nine new businesses.
The Village is also in the process of finalizing approval for the Hidden Hills Subdivision near the Post Office. It will be the site of 104 single-family homes in the next five to ten years upon final approval.
Mayor Marcus reported that the Village’s assessed valuation in the past year was $496 million. And, for the tenth year in a row, the tax rate for the Village has continued to drop.
The Village saw $4.9 million in sales tax over the past year and collected $44,195 in video gaming revenue.
The mayor also lauded praise on the Village Police Department that continues to grow and this year added an additional canine officer.
Mayor Marcus congratulated all of the staff of the Village and thanked them for continuing to help the Board assure that Glen Carbon is prosperous community.
