Maryville Firefighters Host Annual Homecoming
by Kathy Turner
MARYVILLE — Just like the old slogan of old for the postal workers, neither hurricane rains nor summer heat could stop the annual Maryville Firefighters Homecoming last weekend.
The grounds might have been a little sloppy from the torrential rains that were a remnant of Hurricane Beryl but that didn’t stop the people from having a good time.
The weekend included rides, games, food and drinks for all ages. Both Friday and Saturday had entertainment from local bands. Heaton Brothers and ShotGun Creek were featured on Friday. Lanny and Julie and the Blue Marlin Band were featured on Saturday.
Both evenings also kicked off with a parade to entertain the crowds. All was topped off with a matinee on Saturday to assure young people had plenty of opportunity to enjoy the rides and games.
Proceeds from the event go to the Maryville Fire Department. The homecoming serves as their major fundraiser each year.
