Kahok girls cross country season off and running

COLLINSVILLE — The Collinsville girls cross country team has seen mixed results in their early season competitions.

They took seventh last weekend at the nine-team Bellleville West Invitational.

Waterloo and Highland tied for first at the meet with 37 points each while Collinsville scored 170 points. They finished just behind sixth place Belleville West in the standings.

Individually, Catalina Jiminez-Magana took 27th place for the three-mile course and was the top finisher for the purple and white with a time of 22:32.20.

Danielle Cary finished at 23:44.00 with Claire Garkie coming in at 24:19.70 good for 37th place.

Morgan Laing ran a time of 25:21.00 while Sadie Demick ran 26:49.00.

Caroline Denny ran a 28:18.40.

Cameron Crump of Waterloo ran a time of 18:01.90 to win the girls individual crown. She finished in 10th place at the Class 2A state meet a season ago.

Granite City Invite

Collinsville competed at the prestigious 51st Annual Robinson/Lang Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 7.

Every Kahok improved their times over their first week race at Mascoutah.

Kahok Jiminez-Magana took 83rd place with a time of 21:43.30 with Cary completing the three-mile course in 22:24.10 to claim the 99th spot.

Quinn Hall took 100th in 22:26.70.

Garkie finished in 22:38.70 with Laing running a 22:45.90.

Demick ran a time of 26:00.10.

Crump was at Granite City also running a time of 17:03.20 to finish in the runner-up spot behind Father McGivney’s Elena Rybak. 

Rybak finished in sixth place at the Class 1A state meet a year ago. At Granite City she won the girls race with a time of 16:46.10.

In the team standings, Chatham (Glenwood) won the title at Wilson Park with 47 points while Edwardsville finished second with 63 points.

Collinsville finished 18th in the 21-team field.

Upcoming Schedule

Yesterday Collinsville hosted the Kahok Invite at CHS however results were not available at press time. On Saturday they entered the Edwardsville Invite at SIUE.

Collinsville will be in the Riverbend for the Alton Invitational on Wednesday.
