Marine’s Village Board Approves Body Camera lease
by Stephanie Malench
MARINE — Marine’s Village Board met on Sept. 18 and received several updates to previous meetings’ items.
After much discussion and research, the board unanimously approved a 5-year lease totaling $21,661 plus 15% interest to purchase three body cameras, holster, and in-car system from Utility to be in compliance with new police laws that go into effect Jan. 1, 2025.
$7,600 of guns and ammunition for training was donated from the Millers directly from the manufacturer. Mayor Kelly Tracy said this may pave the way for future donations to the police department.
Oil and chipping of the streets has been completed for the year, and the new gravel produced much less dust than the previous gravel chip.
The lift stations are finally receiving all of their new equipment. All three alarms have been installed and the transfer switch was set to be installed Sept. 24 on the north lift station with the switch at the south lift station scheduled for early October.
Earlier in the evening, the Madison County Board approved the Jack Flash gas station at the corner of route 4 and interstate 70. The owners want to begin the process of creating a pre-annexation agreement and is looking to work with the Village in every way possible. To ensure the village extends out to the interstate at an appropriate rate, Tracy wants to form an annexation committee of herself as a private citizen (she said she is not running for re-election in 2025), Mark Vogt, and Terry Gergen.
Marine received the grant from the Highland Community Foundation to paint the tank at the park.
The annual flu shot clinic will be held at the community center from 3 – 6 pm.
The Halloween parade will be October 26 at 3 pm.
The next board meeting will be on October 2 at 7 pm.
