TROY — The Madison County Cross Country Championship was held last week on Oct. 8. Alhambra’s Fireman’s Park hosted the running action.

In the large school girls division, Triad battled into 2nd place as a unit. The Lady Knights finished with a team score of 43 points, finishing behind Highland’s 25 point outing.

Four Lady Knights earned All-County honors, starting with Kennedy Bowman. The senior paced Triad with a 2nd place finish and a time of 20:03.70.

Morgan Mason supplied another top showing for the team by battling into 5th place. The junior’s time of 20:29.60 was the second-fastest by a non-senior runner.

Adding another top 10 finish for Triad was Abigail James, who raced across the end line at 20:47.70. Her time earned a 9th place finish.

The last Lady Knight to race into All-County status was junior Bradynn Carey, who finished in 11th. Carey wrapped up the course in 20:56.90.

With a time of 23:13.40, Cameron Powers turned in the team’s fifth-fastest performance. The third-year’s time landed her in 24th place.

One spot behind Powers, Alivia Phillips rounded out the meet’s top 25 finishers. The junior crossed the finish line at 23:15.30.

Hannah York, a Triad senior, scored the team’s final finish with a time of 23:27.60 that pushed her into 28th.

Triad also found success in the boys large school division of the meet.

In a field of six teams, the Knights wound up in 3rd place. Triad’s team tally, 62 points, left them just behind second-place Edwardsville’s 58 point day.

Drew Twyman captained the team’s day with an All-Conference finish in 3rd place. The senior dashed across the finish line in 15:36.50.

Another All-Conference performance came from Sam Kuckuck, who raced into 11th place. The senior’s time of 16:27.50 was half a second away from the top 10.

The last Knight to secure an All-Conference spot was Gavin Woolverton. With a time of 16:34.70, the sophomore finished in 15th place.

Triad claimed the next two spots thanks to Jacob Ramert and Michael Schram, who took 16th and 17th places, respectively. The second-year runners provided times of 16:50.00 and 16:52.80 to round out the team’s scoring finishes.

Freshman Nile Diehl added another solid finish for the team by cruising into 19th place. Diehl’s time of 17:06.70 ranked fourth among first-year runners.

The meet’s next fastest freshman was Caden Meier, who clocked in at 17:33.90. The first-year Knight’s time landed him in 25th place.
