Madison County Voters prepare for Nov. 5 General Election

MADISON COUNTY — While the Presidential Election will be the main focus for many regarding the Nov. 5 General Election, depending on the district a person lives there are a plethora of contested races and questions in the Troy Times Tribune coverage area.
For Representative in Congress 13th Congressional District Joshua Loyd (R) will challenge incumbent Nikki Budzinski (D).
For Representative in the General Assembly 111th Representative District Nick Raftopoulos (D) will challenge incumbent Amy Elik (R).
For Representative in the General Assembly 112th Representative District Jay Keeven (R) will challenge incumbent Katie Stuart (D).
This election will also see many contested races for county board seats in the area.
Linda Wolfe (R) is facing Jim Trucano (D) for the County Board Member County Board District 22 seat. District 22 is located in Collinsville.
Paul Nicolussi (R) is the incumbent candidate who is being challenged by Carolyn “Carol” Hogan-Downey (D) for the County Board Member County Board District 23 seat. District 23 serves portions of Collinsville and Maryville.
Fred Schulte (R) is facing Cheryl Hagerty (D) for the County Board Member County Board District 24 seat. District 24 covers parts of Glen Carbon and Edwardsville.
Stacey Lipe (D) will be facing Incumbent Chris Guy (R) for the County Board Member County Board District 25 seat. District 25 includes Maryville, Glen Carbon, Collinsville and parts of Collinsville Township
Jacqueline “Jackie” Day (D) is facing incumbent candidate Jason Palmero (R) for the County Board Member County Board District 26 seat. District 26 encompasses Glen Carbon and western Edwardsville.
Depending on where you live there will also be various questions for voters to decide on, both state and district wide.
Statewide Advisory Questions
“Should any candidate appearing on the Illinois ballot for federal, State, or local office be subject to civil penalties if the candidate interferes or attempts to interfere with an election worker’s official duties?”
“Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1,000,000 for the purpose of dedicating funds raised to property tax relief?”
“Should all medically appropriate assisted reproductive treatments, including, but not limited to, in vitro fertilization, be covered by any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides coverage for pregnancy benefits, without limitation on the number of treatments?”
Propositions
Advisory Referendum — “Shall the board of Madison County correspond with the boards of other counties of Illinois, outside of Cook County, about the possibility of separating from Cook County to form a new state and to seek admission to the Union as such, subject to the approval of the people?”
Proposition to Issue $26,100,000 School Building Bonds — “Shall the Board of Education of Staunton Community Unit School District Number 6, Macoupin and Madison Counties, Illinois, build, alter, repair and equip school buildings and facilities, including installing safety and security improvements, increasing accessibility with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance measures, renovating classrooms and other instructional areas and installing air conditioning in the District’s main gym, build and equip auxiliary gym and classroom additions to the Staunton High School Building and improve school sites, including relocating the bus parking area, and issue its bonds to the amount of $26,100,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?”
The voters will have the option of “Yes” or “No” for each of these questions.
