by Kathy Turner
The Village of Maryville Board of Trustees had a full evening of approving equipment purchases and position posting to fill vacancies. Both the police and fire departments are seeking replacement candidates. Chief Tony Manley reported that he has a candidate for a lateral transfer to fill his police officer position. This will mean the person can step right into the role without officer training.
Chief Dankenbring will be looking for a replacement firefighter/EMT. Later in the meeting the Board approved the hiring of Conner Hartman as a probationary paid on-call firefighter.
The water department will be replacing their water meter reading system with approval of an $82,630 purchase from United Systems. The upgrade will also require new Temetra Driveby Software from Itron at a cost of $7,260.
The Board took the first step in the water main improvements project by awarding a contract for $485,496.53 to Haier Plumbing and Heating.
The street department will be adding a new piece of equipment – a Tymco Model 435 Air Street Sweeper. The cost of the sweeper is $248,665.50 from E J Equipment, Inc. There will be a financing contract arranged and approved prior to the purchase. The street sweeper will be used to keep gutters clear in the village which will reduce labor costs when streets flood with leaves and debris.
The Board also approved a change to the Liquor License for One Stop Shop. The license will be changed to a Class A license effective May 1, 2025.
The police department will also receive some equipment upgrades. The Board approved the purchase of an in-car camera system from Motorola Solutions at a cost of $7,743. They also approved the purchase of a radar unit from Stalker Radar/Applied Concepts, Inc. at a cost of $1,750.
The Parks and Recreation Committee will do their Holiday Lights Contest Judging on Dec. 12. Residents should have their displays ready for judging by that date to be considered.
The next meeting of the Board will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
