Kahok girls drop opening contests at MICDS tourney

by Mark Jurgena

Collinsville has struggled in the early going at the MICDS Holiday Tournament in Ladue, Mo.

The second-seeded Kahoks have lost their opening two games of the tourney and were scheduled to meet Town and Country, Mo. (Westminster Christian) in their final game of the tournament on Monday. However, the results of the contest were unavailable at press time.

In their opener on Dec. 26, they fell to Kirkwood, Mo. 58-46 with Talesha Gilmore tossing in 25 points and grabbing nine rebounds while Ashley Janini had 11 points.

The following day they fell to Ladue, Mo. 41-31 in the Consolation bracket semifinal.

Collinsville has been saddled with the loss of some players most notably due to injury and illness recently.

“It’s been a tough couple of days,” began Collinsville coach Colin Moore on Sunday morning. “We played the last two varsity games dressing eight and nine players. “The girls who played never gave up and gave it everything they had.

“Getting put into new sports and situations is hard halfway through the year. We are going to work on some things at practice and try and compete every game. We are excited to have another opportunity to get back out on the court tomorrow.”

Collinsville returns to action next Thursday against SWC rival Edwardsville at Fletcher Gym. The Kahoks are 7-7 on the season.
