Glen Carbon Board Approves Purchase of Two New Police Vehicles
by Kathy Turner
The Glen Carbon Village Board, on Tuesday, Jan. 14, approved the purchase of two new police vehicles. The two 2025 Ford Explorer Interceptors will be purchased from Lou Fusz Ford of Chesterfield, MO at a cost of $96,426.
There will be an additional cost of $35,178 to upfit the two units by VIP Commercial Upfitting. This includes all interior upgrades and external wrapping of the vehicles. The two units, identified as Units 59 and 60, will replace Units 29 and 36 which have reached the end of their usage by the department. Those units will be sold at a later date.
The Board also approved a resolution that will allow retiring Glen Carbon Police Lt. Jeffrey Wayne White to purchase a shotgun that he has used throughout his career as a Glen Carbon officer. The department uses only rifles to equip their police squads, but White has held onto his shotgun. When he retires later this year, after 28 years of service, he will have the opportunity to purchase that gun from the department.
Earlier in the meeting the Board approved the appointment of Donna Poneta-Hahn to the Historical and Museum Commission. Her term will run from Jan. 14, 2025, to April 30, 2028.
The mayor also read a letter submitted by Chief Tony Manley of the Maryville Police Department. Manley commended the cooperation of Chief Todd Link and the Glen Carbon Police Department in providing a traffic sign for use in Maryville when their equipment was not available.
The Board heard a presentation from Jeff Reis, project engineer from TWM, Inc. on the village street program in 2024. Reis reported on the work that was completed as well as plans for 2025.
Grant funding has already been secured for Cougar and Junction drives in the Village and bids are currently being let for this project. Bids are also expected soon for the addition of turn lanes on Route 159 and Glen Carbon Road. There are plans for resurfacing S. Main Street and Forest Ridge in 2025.
The Board agreed to the purchase of a new server for Village operations. This is part of a rotating upgrade plan for all areas of the Village operations.
Finally, the Board approved a professional services agreement with WHKS in the amount of $40,000. This is to conduct Jar Testing at the new wells. The testing is required by Illinois EPA before the Village can move forward with the water well project.
The next meeting of the Village Board will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
