One Dead as Major Case Squad investigates Fatal Collinsville Shooting

TROY — The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has released more information related to a fatal shooting that occurred Tuesday morning in Collinsville. 

According to a news release, on Jan. 21 shortly after 6 a.m., members of the Collinsville Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Olive Street after a report of gunshots being heard in the area. 

Upon arrival, officers discovered a female victim lying near a garage at 1301 Olive St. suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Portia L. Rowland, 32, of Collinsville, was pronounced deceased by the Madison County Coroner’s Office, the news release states. 

The Collinsville Police Department requested the activation of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis and upon activation, approximately 30 investigators responded to assist with the investigation. Currently, it is early in the investigation, but investigators are following up on several leads.
