World of Outlaws Late Models to Highland in August

By Mark Jurgena • The middle of August will once again see a big name series make a stop at the World Famous Highland Speedway.

On Aug. 13, the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Models Beat the Heat 40 by BEL-O returns for a second consecutive year of racing.

That night WoO Late Models will compete for a $12,000 top prize. Also, that night, the DIRTcar Modifieds will compete for a $2,500 pot to the winner.

A year ago, at the inaugural Highland event, Brian Shirley of Chatham won the Highland race with Bobby Pierce of Oakwood and Tyler Bruening of Decorah, Iowa, taking second and third in the 25-car feature contest.

This season, as of July 4, Pierce led the Late Models points chase with 3254 points while Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, N.C. was 50 points behind.

Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, was third, 112 points off the pace.

Beat the Heat 40 details

Fans wishing to snap up tickets for the event may still do so via the MyRacePass app or website or they can do so in person at Woodcrest Small Engine in Highland.

Adult General Admission tickets are $40 with 12 and under tickets sitting at $10.

Box seats are $75 in the first two rows with flip-down seats and the price includes a server.

Reserved seats are $50 as are adult pit passes. For pit access for those 12 and younger, it costs $30.

Unfortunately, no coolers, seat backs/stadium seats are allowed for this race.

Camping access is available for a fee.

On race day, pits will open at noon with the grandstands opening at 4 p.m. Hot laps begin at 6:30 p.m.
