By Ray Popkess

Mayor Stehman began last Tuesday’s Collinsville City Council meeting with a proclamation honoring Taylor Dawson and her historic state wrestling championship for the 2024-2025 season.

On March 1, 2025, Dawson captured the IHSA Girls Wrestling State Championship in the 140-pound division, becoming the first female state wrestling champion in Collinsville High School history.

Her championship run culminated in a dominant 45-second pinfall over her opponent in the championship match. She finished the season with an astounding record of 36 wins, three losses, with 19 falls and 14 technical falls.

The council presented Dawson with a plaque to commemorate her season, dedication and resilience both on and off the mat.

Dawson will continue her academic and athletic career at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, this fall.
