Heat doesn’t stop Cone with Cop in Maryville

By Kathy Turner
The temperatures on Monday might have been in the upper 90s but that didn’t stop Maryville and surrounding community residents from coming out to support their police. The department held their annual Cone with a Cop at Bobby’s Frozen Custard and a large crowd showed up in support.
The event is held to raise funds for the annual holiday event, Shop with a Cop. Each year police officers from Maryville, Collinsville and Caseyville gather during the holidays to provide an opportunity for kids in their communities to do their own holiday shopping.
The funds raised from Monday’s event will help with that cause. And, everyone seemed to enjoy the opportunity to cool off with frozen treats, even if they had to eat them quickly!
In addition to the sweet treats, young people had an opportunity to hang out with police officers and sit in the squad cars like real officers. This is the second year for the fundraiser and students from Collinsville School District #10 will enjoy the benefits during the holiday season. Anyone who might have missed the event is welcome to drop a check off at the police department in support of the Shop with a Cop program.
