Route 162 will be reduced to one lane at Keebler Road from the week of Sept. 15 until the project is complete

Editor • Maryville has announced that Keebler Road at Route 162 closed beginning Sept. 2 for construction of the village’s second roundabout. Motorists can detour around the area by using Old Keebler Road to Route 157.

According to Mayor Wayne White, Route 162 will be reduced to one lane beginning the third week in September, weather permitting, until the project is complete.

The project was first pursued by Maryville and the family of Abby McElroy.

Abby, 16 years of age at the time, was killed in an accident at the intersection on July 31, 2015. When the family first came to a village board meeting, seeking the village’s help in making the intersection safer, Larry Gulledge was mayor and Craig Short was a trustee. Short retired in May after two terms as mayor and Gulledge stepped in as a newly-elected trustee.

The roundabout is expected to be complete in late winter or early spring of 2026. Drivers are urged to use caution when moving through the area. The village’s first roundabout is also on Route 162, at Lakeview Acres Road near the First Baptist Church of Maryville and Maryville Christian School.
