Triad Cross Country teams finish 3rd and 4th at Madison County Championship

By Ray Popkess

Girls’ and Boys’ Cross-Country teams continue to dominate their Metro-East competition by placing 3rd out of 11 and 4th out of 10 teams, respectively during the Madison County Championships on Oct. 8 at Triad High School.

Among large schools, the girls’ team finished behind Highland and Edwardsville and ahead of Alton, Collinsville and Granite City.

The boys’ team finished third amongst large schools as well, also behind Highland and Edwardsville and ahead of Alton, Collinsville and Granite City.

Emmy Goins refused to let any other harriers finish ahead of her as she crossed the finish line first once again and added to her now sixth top-five finish of the season. With an average mile time of 6:23.7, she set the pace with a 19:10.9 finish and near-30 second gap between her and Highland’s Katie Fenton.

The boys’ top placer was Caden Meier, finishing eighth overall with a time of 16:28.2 and an average mile time of 5:29.4.

Below is the full Triad leaderboard from last Wednesday’s action. Each athlete’s name is preceded by their overall finish followed by their finish times and average mile.
