By Kathy Turner • Two members of the Maryville Police Department were presented with awards by their chief, Tony Manley, at the Dec. 17 Maryville board meeting. The first honor was the Award for Excellence, recognizing Cody Sinclair for his energy and enthusiasm exhibited each and every day on the job.

The second award–Officer of the Year–is the highest honor annually for the department. This year’s recipient is officer Alex Reish. Both Sinclair and Reish attended the meeting with their family members to receive the awards.

Mayor Wayne White announced the 2025 winners of the Holiday Lighting Contest. The committee traveled around the village on Dec. 16 to view the nominated homes and businesses and to select winners:

First place home display, 104 Bauer Lane; second place home display, 2113 Tuscany Ridge; third place home display, 6732 Oxford Lane; Best business display, ALI Insurance; Best street display, Barbarotto Lane, and Best cul-de-sac display, Hickory Knolls Subdivision. All nominees are available on the village website. Residents are encouraged to travel around Maryville to view the displays.

The board accepted the resignation of Alice Drobisch from the zoning board of appeals. She and her husband have moved from the community; she is no longer qualified for the appointment.

Tax items led legal matters at the meeting. First, the board approved the 2025 Tax Levy ordinance. Final tax rate for the village will be determined by the county assessment rulings. The board also approved a tax abatement for 2025 for the property owned by the National Gas Pipeline Company of America, LLC. This is an annual abatement identified during the finalization of the contract for development of the property.

The board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Glen Carbon, the Troy Fire Protection District, the Long Lake Fire Protection District, the Mitchell Fire Protection District, and the Glen Carbon Fire Protection District. The agreement is for the provision of a Centralized Public Safety Communications System.

The board also took action on a rezoning request. Claire Johnson Properties, State Route 162, requested her property be rezoned from Single-family residential to B-1, Community Business District. The request, along with a parking variance, was approved by the building and zoning commission which recommended approval. The action was approved.

The board approved a new employee medical insurance policy for the upcoming year. The policy is through Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan MIBPP115. The new policy reflects an increase in premiums of approximately 12.5%. It also reflects increases in the deductibles to be met.

The board also approved the vision, dental and life insurance plan renewals with Blue Cross Blue Shield/Dearborn. These policies remain relatively the same.

The board approved the purchase and installation of a plow and salt spreader for the 2023 Ford F-250 pickup truck owned by the village. Total cost is $33,905.51 which represents the low bid from E J Equipment.

The meeting closed with the approval of the 2026 schedule of meetings. The board will continue with board meetings held on the first and third Wednesday each month and caucus meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. All meetings begin at 6 p.m.

The next meeting of the board will be held Jan. 7 at 6 p.m.
