University of Illinois Extension announces 2026 paid summer internship program

By Tribune Staff • Illinois Extension is now accepting applications for its 2026 Extension Internship Program, a paid, 10-week summer opportunity designed to provide college and community college students with hands-on experience while making a positive impact in local communities.

The internship program runs from June 1 through Aug. 7, and offers participants $17 per hour while working alongside extension professionals in Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties. Interns gain real-world experience in areas such as 4-H Youth Development, agriculture and agribusiness, health and community wellness, community and economic development and natural resources, environment and energy.

This internship offers students a meaningful and career-building experience, enabling them to contribute to programs that strengthen families and communities.

Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited university or community college during the Spring 2026 semester and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5. Academic credit may be available depending on institutional requirements.

To apply, students must submit a resume, cover letter, and one professional letter of recommendation by March 2, 2026, at 5 p.m. Application materials should be emailed to William Catalano at [email protected].
