Triad Schools’ measures of academic progress (MAP) data update
By Charles Bolinger
Editor • Amy Van Hoose, Triad’s director of curriculum and financial projects said she continues to monitor measures of academic progress (MAP) data closely to understand how the district’s programs are impacting student achievement and growth, she told Supt. Dr. Jason Henderson and the board at the Feb. 23 meeting.
“I am truly impressed with the work our elementary teachers have done after a year and a half of implementation of our new reading program, Into Reading.
“Two key measures I focus on are the percentage of students who met or exceeded their growth goal and the overall percentage of growth achieved by students in each class and grade. I focus on growth because achievement levels can vary from year to year depending on the group of students. Growth, however, provides a more consistent measure of progress.
“Each student is assigned a projected growth goal based on the typical growth of students nationwide who start at a similar achievement level. The ‘percent of students who met or exceeded their growth goal’ reflects how many students reached their individual growth targets between the fall and winter MAP assessments. The ‘percentage of growth met’ reflects how much growth students achieved compared to their goal. For example, if a student’s goal was two points and they grew four points, they achieved 200% of their goal.
The data below represents reading and language growth over the past four years.
