by Randy Pierce • Seven felony charges have been filed against a St. Louis man whom law enforcement authorities pursued from a location west of Collinsville into St. Louis on Feb. 18, before apprehending him.
According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, this scenario actually began the previous Saturday when officers responded to a call around 11 p.m. that shots had been fired at a residence in the 3200 block of VFW Lane, which is north of Collinsville Road in the State Park Place area of unincorporated Collinsville.
A window in a home and several vehicles there were damaged after being struck by gunfire but no one was injured then a subsequent investigation resulted in the identification of a suspect who was known by the victims of those crimes.
Then close to 72 hours later, a sheriff’s department deputy located that individual in the same area where the shots occurred but he fled in a vehicle and a pursuit began, going west along Collinsville Road and eventually crossing the Mississippi River into St. Louis.
With assistance of other law enforcement agencies based in both Illinois and Missouri, the chase ended on Interstate 70 in Bridgeton in North St. Louis County with a loaded firearm and allegedly illegal drugs found in the possession of the suspect later identified as Chase R. Lindsay, 30, of the 4200 block of Michigan in South St. Louis.
Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine’s Office filed two counts of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer and one count each of armed violence, possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance containing cocaine and aggravated discharge of a firearm against Lindsay.
Lindsay had been previously convicted of home invasion in August of 2018 in Madison County Circuit Court. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
