Madison County general primary election coming on March 17
by Randy Pierce • Only a handful of contested races exist in the general primary election that is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, but the listings of candidates on the separate Democratic and Republican ballots appear to set the stage for more that will occur this November.
Erica Harriss of Glen Carbon is shown on the Republican ballot seeking another term as state senator for the 56th legislative district while her opposition in November will apparently come from one of two people filing for that office on the Democratic ballot, Marsia Geldert-Murphey or Kevin Hall, whom also reside in Glen Carbon.
In the Republican primary, a race with dual candidates finds the incumbent Madison County clerk and recorder of deeds, Linda Andreas of Maryville, being challenged by Kurt Prenzler, former county board chairman, of Edwardsville.
On the Democratic primary ballot, Rachelle Nicole Bauerle is also seeking support for the office of county clerk and recorder.
Incumbent Madison County Board District 1 representative Fred Michael of Highland is not seeking reelection after his four-year term expires later this year. Seeking to fill that position are, as shown on the Republican primary ballot, Jennifer Korte of 15 Primrose Lane in Trenton, and, running as a Democrat, Barbara Hosto-Marti of 1200 14th Street in Highland.
Ronald Simpson of 127 McArthur in Troy, appointed in early 2025 to fill a county board position left vacant when its District 2 representative, Stacey Pace, was moved into the directorship of the county community development department, is seeking a full four-year term as a Republican as part of next week’s primary election while his Democratic counterpart on the ballot is Zachary Sandefer of 8947 Radcliffe Place in Troy.
Bobby Ross of 306 Washington Street in St. Jacob, the incumbent county board representative from District 4, is being challenged on the Republican primary ballot by attorney Thomas G. Maag of 25 Lexington Lane in Highland.
Robert C. Hubbard of 32 Deer Run East in Pocahontas is seeking a place on next November’s ballot by appearing as a Democrat seeking the County Board District 4 seat in this primary.
Incumbent District 11 county board member Dalton Gray of 408 Troy Avenue in Troy is the only Republican candidate shown seeking that seat but on the Democratic side, Rachel King of 1507 Stonebrooke Drive in Edwardsville is running for it.
Madison County Sheriff Jeff Connor of Maryville is running for re-election without opposition in the primary.
Precinct polling places will be open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday while early voting is taking place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Collinsville Senior Citizen Building at 420 East Main Street and at the Weinheimer Community Center at 1100 Main Street in Highland.
A grace period for voter registration which ends at 5 p.m. Monday, March 16, has been set up for those who wish to pursue this at the office of the county clerk on the first floor in the Madison County Administration Building at 157 North Main Street in Edwardsville.
