Maryville holds public hearing on comprehensive plan, new business district

By Kathy Turner • Maryville Village Board held two public hearings on Wednesday, March 11. The first focused on the changes to the village’s comprehensive plan. The change will allow for mixed-use development.

There being no one from the public in attendance, the matter will be moved to the full board for approval next week. Once approved, the changes will be sent to Madison County to be recorded as the official map changes and narrative. Adam Stroud from PGAV planners was in attendance to explain the changes.

The second hearing was to establish a business district in the village. This is a required hearing to set up the district in what the state identifies as a blighted area. In this case the blighted area qualified because of decaying infrastructure. This will allow for the Maryville Town Center to move forward with planning. Establishing the business district will mean notifying the state of a 1% retail sales tax in support of development of the identified area. Stroud also explained the action.

Again, no one in attendance questioned the action so the item will be moved to next week’s village board meeting for approval. It will then be sent to the Illinois Department of Revenue to register the tax.
