Gladys Laura Weider


April 23, 1927 – March 27, 2026

Gladys Laura Weider, 98, lifelong resident of Troy, IL, and member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, died March 27, 2026 at Highland Healthcare. Gladys was born April 23, 1927 in Troy, the daughter of Raymond and Christine, née Schlemer, Loyet.
Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She graduated from (the former) McCray Dewey High School and married Arthur “Puz” Weider on May 17, 1947. She retired from Troy Building Supply, where she worked as secretary/bookkeeper for 21 years. As a member of St. Jerome Parish, she served as Eucharistic Minister and was a member and past officer of St. Ann’s Council of Catholic Women. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, quilting, all the aspects of homemaking and traveling the states and abroad with her husband.

Surviving are her husband Arthur Weider; daughters Karen (Darrell) Becker of Highland; and Annette (Lowell) Mills of Marine; daughter-in-law Paula Weider; seven grandchildren Amanda (Jeff) Wolf, Lauren (Kevin) Switala, Angela (Kassidy) Kueper, Sarah (Carl Day) Weider, Emily (Michael) Pingsterhaus, Eric (Lauren) Smith, and Chelsea (Benjamin) Zelasko; 17 great-grandchildren; and sister Doris Schultheiss of Green Valley, Ariz.

Gladys was preceded in death by her sons, Curtis Weider and Stuart Weider; her parents; brother Nelson Loyet; sister Marian Wakeland; and grandson Lance Becker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to either St. Jerome Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be held 9 – 11 am, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 507 S. Main St., Troy, IL.

Memorial Mass will begin at 11 am, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at the church, with Fr. Kevin Laughery presiding. A luncheon will follow.
