Maryville takes next step to address village mine subsidence

By Kathy Turner • The Maryville Village Board on Wednesday, Apr. 1 approved the execution of a master agreement to address mine subsidence concerns in the village. The village is facing major remediation and construction repair/replacement needs and this action is a first step in the planning.

The agreement is with FGM Architects Inc. in the amount of $6,000. The architects will begin identifying needs and outlining a plan to address the concerns for project #1.

The board also approved two purchases for the water and sewer department. The first was a contract to clean and inspect the clearwell and the reaction basins. MIDCO Diving and Marine Services were the low bidders for the project at a cost of $6,875.

Second was the purchase of a stand-alone generator for the Stonebridge Farms Lift Station. The bid of $44,465 for the generator from Cummins Sales and Services and $9,850 from Alert Electrical Inc. for the electrical work.

With the retirement of village clerk and treasurer Jolene Henry, the board acted to fill both positions. Tammy Warner will serve as village clerk, effective immediately. Melissa Loftus was appointed to the position of treasurer.

During legal matters, village attorney Tonya Genovese requested approval of a resolution to move for demolition of property in the village. The property at 152 Wilma Drive will move forward in the legal process for destruction.

The board took action to recognize a couple and one gentleman with Good Neighbor Awards. Harry and Connie Demetrulias received an award on the nomination of their neighbors for their continued effort to provide support and assistance. Ray Ludwig received an award on nomination by his neighbors for his efforts to clear neighborhood driveways during snowfalls.

Mayor White moved for the appointment of Judy Levi to the Heritage and Museum Committee. Her term will expire on April 30, 2028.

Village-wide yard sales will be held on April 24 and 25. All village residents are encouraged to participate and take advantage of the well-attended event.
